From 15 to 20 September, the 2020 Youth Camp was organized at the Nongbouakham Center in Nakai district. This camp was organized for the new generation of Nakai residents to have a better understanding of how they can positively contribute to their communities through volunteering and supporting social services. To help with this year’s camp, the Namjai Community Association (NCA) prepared the learning material as well as the activities, using their 20-year experience in community development.

Present at the opening ceremony were representatives from Nam Theun 2, the district education, youth and justice offices and village authorities.

The Youth Camp program, under the Nam Theun 2 Development Fund (NT2DF), aims to inspire the youth and create a volunteer’s mindset. This in turn would allow them to actively contribute to their communities with basic knowledge on project proposal creation, project management, and leadership skills. The camp also identified key strategic focus areas for Nakai, namely drug prevention, waste management, reforestation and sustainable management of the Nongbouakham center itself.

The Nongbouakham Learning Center was established under the support of NT2DF in 2018 and aims to empower the young generation for community mobilization regarding social and economic development of Nakai District. Activities at the Center include youth camp, model farming, handicrafts and social services to nearby communities. Currently there are about 6 volunteers who operate the center.
