Vientiane, 31 August 2026 — Nam Theun 2 Power Company participated in the 23rd Ordinary Meeting of the Nakai–Nam Theun National Park Management Board, bringing together government authorities, provincial administrations, Management Board members and key stakeholders to review progress and discuss the future management of Nakai–Nam Theun National Park.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Linkham Douangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment and Chair of the Nakai–Nam Theun National Park Management Board, with representatives of other relevant stakeholders in attendance.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the implementation of previous decisions, assess progress during the first six months of 2026, and agree on priorities and measures for the remaining months of the year. Discussions also focused on strengthening the Park’s management system and working mechanisms, while clarifying responsibilities among relevant sectors and local authorities.
Moving Towards the Nakai–Nam Theun 2035 Vision
One of the key areas of discussion was the Nakai–Nam Theun 2035 Vision, which provides a long-term direction for strengthening the management and conservation of the park.
The meeting focused on how this vision can be translated into effective systems, clear responsibilities, and practical actions on the ground. This includes strengthening the Park’s organizational structure, improving coordination among stakeholders, and developing management tools that can support the Park over the long term.
The Management Board also reviewed and approved several important measures, including the 5th Social and Environmental Management Plan to 2035, the organizational and staffing structure, and the Nakai–Nam Theun National Park Management Manual. These measures are important foundations for improving the effectiveness and consistency of Park management.
The overall ambition is to establish Nakai–Nam Theun National Park as a model for effective and sustainable national park management in Lao PDR, while ensuring that its outstanding natural values are protected for future generations.

The 23rd Ordinary Meeting represents an important step in this ongoing journey — strengthening the systems, partnerships and actions needed to ensure that Nakai–Nam Theun remains a place where conservation, sustainable development and the well-being of local communities can progress together.
