On 31 May 2023, Nam Theun 2 signed a funding agreement worth 250,000 USD with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Lao PDR for the conservation of the Asian elephant and the rehabilitation of the Chinese Swamp Cypress.
The agreement marks a transition phase before the full handover of Nam Theun 2’s Social and Environmental programs to the Government of Laos, after having met its obligation under the Concession Agreement.
