On September 27, 2023, the Nam Theun 2 Long-Term Scholarship (LTS) program awarded scholarships to seven grantees at a ceremony in Nakai district, Khammouane province. Representatives from the Nam Theun 2 Development Fund (NT2DF) Secretariat Team, the LTS Committee, the village head, parents of the grantees, and the new grantees themselves attended the ceremony.

The Long-Term Scholarship (LTS) is one of the projects that Nam Theun 2 supports in Nakai district, Khammouane province, through the Nam Theun 2 Development Fund. The project was launched in 2015 and has awarded 115 scholarships to nine batches, with 24 currently enrolled in their studies.

Miss Anna Soulivong, one of the seven grantees, said, “I am currently studying at the National University of Laos, majoring in Community Development in the Department of Social and Rural Development. I am passionate about using my knowledge to develop my community, and this major is often overlooked by young people. I believe that this major is essential to becoming a force for good in our community.”

“Nam Theun 2 has provided me with tuition fees, a monthly allowance, dormitory fees, health and accident insurance, support with studying equipment, and an internship opportunity.”

“I am deeply grateful to Nam Theun 2 for awarding me this scholarship, which will alleviate the financial burden on my family. I am also grateful for Nam Theun 2’s continued support for the families of Nakai district, Khammouane province.”

“After graduating, if I have the opportunity, I would like to work with Nam Theun 2 to use my knowledge, develop myself, and gain the experience necessary to contribute to the development of Nakai district, my hometown and birthplace.”

In addition, Ms. Vilanith Keoboualapha is studying Computer Science at the National University of Laos, Mr. Keophouthone Phommapheau is studying Accounting at the Khammouane Technical and Vocational Training College, Ms. Pailing Xayyalath is studying Information and Communication Technology at Savannakhet University, Ms. Mina Khamphisouvong is studying Food Processing Technology at Savannakhet University, Ms. Jimmy Xayyasompong is studying Architecture at the Khammouane Technical and Vocational Training College, and Ms. Nolar Heaungsy is studying Information and Communication Technology at the Khammouane Technical and Vocational Training College.
