On 17–18 September 2025, the Nam Theun 2 had the honor of welcoming Mr. Bhargav Dasgupta, Vice President for Market Solutions of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and his delegation for an in-depth visit to key sites in the Gnommalath and Nakai districts. The delegation explored various locations, including the Nam Theun 2 Visitor Center for a comprehensive project overview, the irrigation outlet 1 at the Regulating Dam, Thathot irrigation, the Saving Credit Union office, a resettlement village, the watershed area, and the visitor center of Nakai Nam Theun National Park.
The Nam Theun 2 Project has benefited from ADB’s support since its inception, serving as a model for environmental and social management in the region. This visit by Mr. Bhargav Dasgupta was aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the project’s progress and reaffirming the shared commitment to sustainable development—balancing socio-economic growth with environmental protection.
The visit was part of a broader mission to the Lao PDR by Mr. Bhargav Dasgupta, and his Senior Advisor Mr. Juan-Pablo Martinez-Molina, from 15 to 19 September 2025. During their stay, the delegation engaged with senior officials from relevant ministries, development partners, and other key stakeholders. A central component of the mission was site visits to ADB-funded projects, which helped highlight and reinforce the ongoing collaboration and shared commitment to the country’s development.
This engagement provided a valuable opportunity to further deepen the partnership between ADB and the Lao PDR, emphasizing the importance of sustainable, inclusive growth for the nation’s future.
