The event will culminate in a regional meeting on May 30 at the Riveria Hotel in Thakhek, Khammouane Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Draw lessons from NT2\u2019s reservoir management for sustainable hydropower.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore adaptive basin planning for water security and climate resilience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examine renewable energy development options, including floating solar and pumped hydro energy storage (PHES).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review Phase 1 dam operation data and provide input for Phase 2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discuss national hydropower database updates and energy development plans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ANU\u2019s Technical Contributions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>ANU has played a pivotal role in supporting the MRC\u2019s Proactive Regional Planning (PRP) process. Their work includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Developing atlases identifying over 25,000 potential PHES sites across the Mekong region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using the FIRM model to optimize energy planning and integrate solar, wind, and PHES.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Publishing key reports on water-energy integration and renewable energy scenarios.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Agenda Highlights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 1 \u2013 May 29:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Site visit to NT2 Hydropower Project, including operational briefings and a tour of proposed bluefield PHES sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 2 \u2013 May 30:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presentations on ANU\u2019s modeling tools and PHES atlas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussions on dam data sharing, hydropower database updates, and national energy plans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Case studies from Australia on re-operating conventional hydropower for multiple benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Participants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will gather over 60 representatives from MRC member countries, ANU, DFAT, EGAT, EDF, CK Power, NTPC and other regional stakeholders.
